A Table d’Hôte is the simplest and at the same time one of the richest forms of hospitality one can experience. Authenticity, companionship, cultural exchange and a close encounter with the way of life of your host. All the things no money in the world can buy.
The word Table d’Hôte is French, however the event can be enjoyed allover the world in many different cultures. The roots of the expression “Table d’Hôte” can be found in the early days of Gîtes de France which was founded in 1951 by Emile Aubert.
In present times a Table d'Hôte in France is often combined with a Chambre d'Hote, Gîtes de séjour, Gîtes d’étappe or a Camping a la Ferme. Even today a Table d’Hôte is by no means a restaurant although in some cases differences tend to fade because of the professionalism at which meals are served.
